• Camera Data (Real-Time Only): AttendEase uses your device's camera exclusively for QR code scanning during attendance check-ins. No images or video are captured, stored, or transmitted.
• Location Data: Location is used once at the time of check-in to confirm the student’s presence near the classroom. It is not tracked continuously and is not stored beyond the check-in event.
• SMS Data (OTP Only): We use RECEIVE_SMS and READ_SMS permissions to automatically detect One-Time Passwords (OTP) sent via SMS (e.g., from Twilio). OTPs are used solely for attendance verification. We do not read, store, or access any other SMS messages. OTP content is used only temporarily and is not logged or saved.
• User Information: Includes name, student ID, and attendance status – usually pre-registered by your institution.
• Device & Usage Information: Device type, OS version, crash logs, and app usage diagnostics used to improve performance and stability.

2. How We Use Your Information

• Verify your physical presence using QR scanning and GPS
• Confirm your identity with secure OTP-based check-ins
• Store accurate attendance records for academic purposes
• Diagnose issues and improve app performance
• Ensure secure user access to dashboards and logs

3. Data Storage & Retention

• Most attendance checks are processed instantly and securely
• Student data is stored in the university’s or institution’s database
• OTP data is not stored
• Diagnostic and crash data is stored temporarily for performance enhancement
• Users may request deletion of their data at any time

4. Sharing Your Information

• We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties
• Data may be shared with authorized university staff or instructors
• Legal authorities, if required by law
• Service providers involved in OTP delivery (e.g., Twilio)

5. Data Security

• HTTPS encryption for all communications
• Secure backend access to dashboards
• Minimal data collection focused only on attendance verification
• Access control to ensure only authorized users handle stored data

6. Your Privacy Choices

• You may revoke camera, location, or SMS access through your phone settings
• Note: disabling these may impact attendance check-in functionality
• Request data deletion by contacting us via email

7. Children’s Privacy

AttendEase is designed for use in higher education institutions. It is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from users under that age.

8. Third-Party Services

• We may use third-party services like Twilio for sending OTPs via SMS
• These services are governed by their own privacy policies

This policy may be updated as needed. The most current version will always be available in the app and on our website.
